Team Naturally, Run: Train for a 10k

It was a bit quiet around these parts last week, but that’s because I had something super exciting in the planning…

Introducing: Team Naturally, Run!

Let me back up a bit. It all started when I was training for Run to the Beat and quite a few of my friends made murmurs around how they would love to compete in a race; get fitter; learn to run; tone up for summer etc. Despite all my encouragement and ‘you CAN do it’s’, only a few made the transition from the couch to the pavement. I wanted to be able to encourage these girls a bit more, and provide them with some guidance – around how to train, what to wear, what to expect.

With this year being the Year of the 10k for me, I started brainstorming. Why not do it together?

I started putting out the word – who would be keen to train for a 10k race with me? Turns out – quite a few were! As of last week, I have 14 lovely ladies who are starting their 8 week training today.

And here’s where you can get involved too!

There is a super cool women’s race coming up on SATURDAY 18 MAY in London (more on this soon!) – which is exactly 8 weeks away.

If you live in London, and want to join Team Naturally, Run then simply pop your details in the side bar over there —> and I’ll email you the training plan (which allows for both an 8 week training lead up, or a 6 week training lead up).

I’ll be sending out weekly encouragement emails full of tips and tricks on different topics – all with the aim of keeping you motivated through the next 8 weeks of training. I’m planning to get the group together a couple of times for training runs, and meet up before and after the race. There may be a few treats from me at the end too – just as an extra WELL DONE 🙂

Even if you don’t live in London, you can still get involved! Sign up to receive the training plan and emails – and then make plans to run your own 10k at the end of the 8 weeks.

I’ll be posting the Team Naturally, Run: train for a 10k series on the blog here too, so even if you don’t want to join the team right now, you will be able to follow along regardless. You can expect to hear from some of the girls who are training too.

If you are wavering on the 10k distance – trust me when I say that ANYONE can get to that distance by committing to 2-3 runs a week for 6-8 weeks. There are all abilities in the group so far – from seasoned runners to brand spanking new beginners. It’s all about supporting and encouraging each other and doing it together!

      Good mantra to run to. Mine is “just keep running, just keep running” to the tune of Finding Nemo’s “just keep swimming”. That and “you won’t die, you won’t die”. Whatever works!

      Hooray! So many girls I know like to run, and for others who want to get involved – it’s cool to have a supportive environment for us all to encourage each other and hit those goals!

      Would love to join this, I used to live in London doing my OE but returned to NZ a couple of years ago. I’m training for my first 10K in Huntly on the 26 May so this would be perfect timing. I’ve just managed to get to the point where I can run 5K…one foot in front of the other 🙂

    This is a great idea, group motivation is the best 🙂 ! I’ve signed up – am not sure if I’m courageous enough to actually partake in the race as I’ve never run such a long distance/or raced before! But am hoping this will provide some extra inspiration to kick my ass into gear 😉 Thanks Leah!

      Yeah I am hoping the group aspect really provides extra motivation for ladies to get out there and cross the finish line (whether its at the Nike race, or another one). I really hope you will join us – this is the first time for MANY ladies in the group – there is someone of every single ability! You can do it Lucy!

    I’m so stoked for this training plan. Do you really think that *Anyone* can do this in 6-8 weeks? I’m awfully out of shape (as in, haven’t been running for 6+ months)… I’m super nervous but 10k is one of my goals this year and how AMAZING would it be to do it while I’m here in London?!

      I really really really DO think that anyone can do this in 6-8 weeks. I only had 11 weeks to train for a half marathon which I thought was totally not possible – yet I managed to cross that finish line!. If 10K is one of your goals, then what better environment to do it in – one that is supportive and full of like minded girls. So many of them are taking on this challenge as their first foray into running too! It’s awesome. And like you say – achieving it in LONDON…even better!

    Hiya I’m in Manchester and my 1st 10km is the 4th of may (eek) so am training already but would love to join in with you all 🙂 if anyone’s in Manchester/Stockport and fancies joining for a weekend run give me a shout 🙂 (and a copy of the 6week plan would be great 🙂 )

    thx for the link one Facebook. 🙂 It sounds really interesting and I’d be glad to join you! I’ll live in Bournemouth for the next 10 weeks and want to take part of the Nike Run, too. 🙂 I’d love to meet you girls for a training run on one or two weekends before the race started. Yet I’m not that trained, but I’m still improving myself. Would be cool to meet nice people who are interested in the same.
    I just wrote me in into your training program and hope to have a great time then!
